Earlier in the year I entered The Photo Review 29th Annual International Photography Competition. The Photo Review is a highly acclaimed critical journal published quarterly in the US and with a well-earned international reputation as one of the best serious photography publications being produced today.
Because their work was seen in The Photo Review, past winners have been
given exhibitions, have had their work reproduced in other
leading photography magazines, and have sold their work to collectors
throughout the country. I had a good look at several previous years' winners and it was very impressive work. I promptly entered the competition, on the basis that if you are going to be judged, be judged against the best out there.
When the winner's notification deadline passed in August and I heard nothing I shrugged and moved on - you can't win 'em all, so keep shooting, keep improving, keep meeting other artists and keep on finding opportunities to show your work.
Imagine my surprise when I recieved an email last week announcing I was a prize-winner!
