It's funny how a few hundred square miles of desert and a few hundred abandoned homesteads can exert such a pull on your imagination. So strong, in fact, that I'm returning to Wonder Valley next week. I've been saving my pennies in the year since I last visited, bought the ticket, and am all set to fly to Los Angeles next Wednesday. Once I land I'm driving straight out to the Mojave and aim to get my tent up before nightfall!
This visit will, I hope, be different to last year and build on that work. I'm planning to add an extra dimension to the Welcome to Wonder Valley project by meeting people and documenting their experience of living in the Valley now, in the 21st Century. I hope to return with some insightful stories and photographs to illustrate them.
The plan is to post updates most days.
